Churchill and liminality

"The longer you can look back, the farther you can look forward."

-Winston Churchill, 1944

Churchill shared this sentiment during the Second World War, seeking to make the point that understanding history and its details and nuances enables us to make more accurate predictions and forecasts about future events.

This idea applies not only to history, but also to the ancient sentiment and long-held relationship mankind has had with other worlds existing in parallel to ours. The "otherworldness" of ancient wisdom allowed humankind to experience the chaos of daily life while returning to a stable source of life, creativity, death, and rebirth unchanged by advancing modernity and technology. This liminality of the emotional and spiritual life of our ancestors feels missing to me in our present rhythms and rituals, and I'm working to reclaim it.

More on this in 2026.
